Second Sunday Spoken Word is the first and only regularly scheduled monthly event devoted to the Spoken Word. We welcome all writers, including lyricists, to share their work on the second Sunday of every month. We believe in speaking out and are dedicated to giving people a voice. We are open to all readers, genres, and formats.


3-5 pm Spoken Word – original poetry, fiction, and non-fiction

5-6 pm Singers, songwriters, and other acoustic musicians

Second Sunday Spoken Word at BWAC

BWAC – 481 Van Brunt St, Door 7, Red Hook, Brooklyn
On August 5th readers from the Staten Island Creative Community will collaborate with readers from the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition to present “Poetry in Many Languages.”

Vivian Vassar will present a warm up exercise in “ multiple “ languages based on the the Ouvroir de Literature Potentielle or Oulipo, the French collective of poets and mathematicians. Henry Van Campen, winner of a poet and Writers grant, will read original poetry in Japanese and English. Fritz Weiss will read in French, Kevyn Fairchild in Hungarian, , Marilyn Kiss in Spanish, Malachi McCormick in Irish, Fedeline Charles in Creole, and Sue Ehrlich in Yiddish. The reading s will be followed by the original lyrics of Hiroko Otani and Dennis Green in Japanese.

Second Sunday Spoken Word at Art on the Terrace

Join us for the  “Poet’s Cafe” which will take place in the back yard of the galley, weather permitting. Readers will include Brandon Korosh, Sue Ehrllich, Malachi McCormick, Tom Padovano, and Emily Ward. Music will be provided by Rob and Elle. Refreshments to follow.
